Governance and Human Rights Economic and Political Reporting in South Eastern Europe

The news media in Southeast Europe is increasingly required to report on complex economic, financial and political issues. Lacking the appropriate experience journalists are under-prepared to provide the public with an adequate coverage of economic and political transitional process. In 2007, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Thomson Reuters Foundation initiated the programme “Economic and Political Reporting from Southeast Europe” for journalists from the Balkans.

Overview

Aims of the programme:

  • To foster quality analysis and reporting on economic issues
  • Enhance coverage on topics that are central to the region’s economic and political development
  • Encourage regional networking among journalists and to contribute to mutual regional understanding

The programme also covers the following broader topics:

  • Writing about emerging market economies
  • Markets reporting and covering companies
  • Practical exercises based on current European themes.

Participants also meet with policymakers, representatives from business, civil society and media.

Participants:

Every year sixteen journalists from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey are selected to participate in the programme. We have trained over 150 journalists from Southeast Europe since 2007.
